Still No Magic For Suddenly It's Magic At The Philippine Box Office?
MANILA, Philippines - What went wrong with Suddenly It's Magic in the box office? Is it the stars Erich Gonzales and Mario Maurer? There's no chemistry or wrong pair-up? Or is it the over promotion and over exposure online?

I'm no movie critic or analyst but significantly Suddenly It's Magic failed at the Philippine box office and earned a slightly shy gross of P38,090,631 after 2 weeks of showing compared to the films shown on the same month.

The month of October started with a blast as This Guy's In Love With U Mare surpassed the 100M and 200M mark at the box office and making it so far the highest grossing Filipino film of 2012. Ensemble cast featuring Vice Ganda, Luis Manzano and Toni Gonzaga impressed the moviegoers and in return the movie earned an estimated P249 million since its opening last October 10.

Following the trail of This Guy's In Love With U Mare is the follow-up movie of Anne Curtis and Derek Ramsay together in A Secret Affair who already surpassed the 100M mark earning a total of P112,468,937 in its three weeks of showing.

Another successful movie of the year is Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles starring Dingdong Dantes and Lovi Poe which gained praises from critics for its spectacular visual effects, has already earned P83,352,091 for its four weeks run in cinemas.

Suddenly It's Magic may not be able to make any significant box office earnings as foreign films are already dominating the local box office including the James Bond movie Skyfall of Daniel Craig and the much anticipated final installment The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2

I think there was no mistake in pairing-up Mario Maurer with Erich Gonzales if and only if the moviegoers still want the romantic-comedy genre in films. The over exposure of the film online, particularly in Facebook, Twitter or Blogs may add up to the failure as critics, bloggers, observers and the likes, may have predicted what could be the whole story of Suddenly It's Magic from start to finish.

The "celebrity-fall-in-love-with-non-celebrirty" story may already tired the audience as several Filipino films already used the same including Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw starring Regine Velasquez and Robin Padilla in 2000.

Apparently, testing the waters for romantic-comedy is not yet over as 24/7 In Love will invade Philippine cinemas in 3 days time. Will it be another successful movie from Star Cinema? Can the ensemble cast push their fans to flock in cinemas? Well, let's wait and see.
